In the last few years we have seen hundreds of new skyscrapers
developed around the world without careful consideration to the context
or environment. There is a constant lack of urban planning and poor
architectural design without intellectual or perceptual enjoyment. The
aim of the competition is to push our imagination to redefine the term
skyscraper through the use of new materials, technology, aesthetics,
programs, and spatial organizations. Globalization, environmental
warming, flexibility, adaptability, and the digital revolution are just
some of the multi-layered elements that should be taken in
consideration. There are no restrictions in regards to site, program or
size. The objective is to provide maximum freedom to propose the most
innovative projects for this fascinating architectural genre.
Ultimately, the designs should help the environment, restructure our
cities and improve our way of life.Register now

craft and fine art among some of the most innovative established and emerging artists in the field,
including Marc Quinn, Pablo Reinoso, Thierry Dreyfus, Vincent Dubourg and Sebastian
Brajkovic. Working in an idiom that does not preclude a purpose beyond formalist or subjective
aims, design art is both celebrated and dismissed for embracing some form of functionality or

Art Under the Bridge is a multi-site happening unique to Dumbo since
1997, the historic post-industrial neighborhood spanning the East River
waterfront between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. The event's
enduring magic is the transformation of an entire neighborhood into a
vibrant platform for self-expression over 3 days once a year. New
artworks by young visual artists are created on-the-spot everywhere and
anywhere: they may be specific to a particular site or they may wander.
They may be projected or afloat. They may be performed or make sound,
they may glow in the dark or ride an elevator, they may occupy a
corporate lobby or beg your interaction, or they may just sit there and
demand your attention. November 21, 2009—June 20, 2010 Marcel Wanders at the Philadelphia Museum of Art—Philadelphia
An exhibition of his favorite work designed by Marcel Wanders, the

for Modern and Contemporary Design at the Philadelphia Museum of Art,
will present Marcel Wanders with its 2009 Design Excellence Award.
This exhibition highlights the role played by production and
consumption in fashioning our experience of music in everyday life.
Music culture thrives within an ecology of such products as turntables,
iPods and synthesizers; it expresses itself through images reproduced
on dance hall flyers, record sleeves and CD inserts; it gets
distributed globally in such media forms as television shows, MTV
videos and My Space; it is exhibited in independent record shops,
second-hand music stores and large malls; and it finds ubiquity in such
technological formats as MP3 files, P2P networks and iTunes.
