Arthur William Upfield est un écrivain anglais né en 1888 à Gosport dans la région du Hampshire, en Angleterre. Il a passé la plus grande partie de sa vie en Australie où il est mort en 1964. Célèbre pour ses romans policiers qui mettent en scène un détective de mère aborigène et de père européen, l'inspecteur Napoléon Bonaparte, et qui explorent les paysages sauvages de l'intérieur australien, il est considéré comme le pionnier du polar ethnologique.
